BEAS used its earlier experiences in designing and developing a cloud approach on AWS Cloud. BEAS designed and implemented a cloud-native architecture for the payment gateway application. The enhancements were done, and migration was planned and performed in a way that ensured minimum disruption and a smooth transition.

Architecture Overview used:

Compute Layer:
- Amazon EC2:The application was deployed on Amazon EC2 instances with Auto Scaling enabled to handle varying traffic loads. Instances were spread across multiple Availability Zones (AZs) for redundancy.
Database Layer:
- Amazon RDS:The primary transactional database was migrated to Amazon RDS for MySQL. Multi-AZ deployment was configured for high availability, with automated backups and point-in-time recovery.
Security and Compliance:
- AWS WAF & Shield:AWS Web Application Firewall (WAF) and AWS Shield were implemented to protect the application from common web exploits and DDoS attacks.
- AWS Key Management Service (KMS):Encryption keys were managed using AWS KMS to ensure data encryption at rest and in transit, meeting PCI DSS requirements.
- AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM):IAM was configured with strict policies and role-based access control to manage permissions securely.
Networking:
- Amazon VPC:The application was deployed within an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) with private subnets for database instances and public subnets for web-facing components. VPC Peering was used for secure communication between different components.
- AWS Global Accelerator:To improve performance for users in different regions, AWS Global Accelerator was employed, providing a global fixed entry point and routing traffic to the optimal endpoint based on latency.
Storage and Backup:
- Amazon S3: Customer transaction logs and application logs were stored in Amazon S3, with lifecycle policies in place to manage data retention.
- Amazon Glacier: For long-term archival of sensitive data, Amazon Glacier was used, offering cost-effective storage.
Monitoring and Logging:
- Amazon CloudWatch:CloudWatch was used for monitoring application performance, setting up alarms for unusual activities, and generating metrics on CPU utilization, memory usage, and response times.
- AWS CloudTrail: CloudTrail was enabled to track user activity and API calls, ensuring auditability and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD):
- AWS CodePipeline: AWS CodePipeline was set up for continuous integration and deployment, allowing Client thus helping to deploy updates rapidly and reliably.
- AWS CodeBuild & CodeDeploy: These services were used to automate the build and deployment processes, ensuring a consistent and error-free release pipeline.
